   Heelan was the daughter of Kimball Heelan, an actress and teacher at Lowell Public Schools, and Kevin Heelan, a playwright. Conor is her older brother. Heelan's father, who is also known as being a dramaticist, has been a faculty member at Phillips Andover Academy since 1983. Heelan was a student at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, and then spent an entire year at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
