Rochon Born from Torrance (a suburb in Los Angeles), is the daughter Zelma Staples. Her parents are Samuel Staples a graphic designer and businessman. Cerritos high school located in Cerritos is where she graduated from. In 1986, she graduated from California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and obtained a bachelor's in broadcast journalism, with minors in sociology and theatre. Rochon was the keynote speaker for CSUDH's College of Arts and Humanities commencement ceremony in 2016.

Ullerup was seen as Julia Brynn for the first appearance in Battlestar Galactica: The Remake in 2006 on the Sci Fi Channel. In the initial two seasons of Sanctuary, she appeared as Ashley Magnus until the character was deleted. A lot of fans demanded her return even though the show had been removed from the air. In 2016, Ullerup was cast as Bree O'Brien in Chesapeake Shores. Ullerup played Maggie Thomas as the estranged ex-wife of Michael Thomas in Asteroid: Final Impact. In 2016 Ullerup has had a recurring character as Dale Travers in Hallmark's Signed, Sealed, Delivered movies series.
